Welcome to Sursum Corda Retreat and         Wellness Center!

Sursum Corda! Lift Up Your Hearts!

Sursum Corda is a Latin phrase which translates Lift Up Your Hearts!

We hope that all who come and use our facilities will experience that same joy.

While not directly on the ocean, Sursum Corda is a short walk to Copalis Beach. The property offers a main building with 22 beds for adults in 13 different rooms, a 30 foot yurt for meditation, yoga, dancing and more, a prayer labyrinth and extensive walking trails through 6 acres of dense woods. The beauty and privacy of the location, while a little more than two hours from Tacoma or Portland, offer those who make the journey a wonderful sense of destination and retreat. Whatever the ‘work’ that you are planning to do at Sursum Corda, we are confident that the setting will add to your creativity, productivity and fun!

About Us

Sursum Corda!  Lift Up Your Hearts!

The mission of Sursum Corda Retreat and Wellness Center is to provide a private and beautiful space for groups and Individuals to come away and do their work.  ‘Work’  is understood in the broadest sense- spiritual, intellectual, emotional, relational and physical. Our rustic, comfortable facilities are conducive to personal or small group retreats, board meetings and seminars; trainings, team building and professional development. The space is also enjoyed by large families for reunions and small weddings. Hospitality is one of our core values as well as living in simple harmony in the exquisite natural setting of Washington’s Pacific coast.

Sursum Corda is designed to have a gentle foot print on the delicate ecosystem of the north shore in Grays Harbor County. One of the three main meeting spaces is a 30 foot yurt equipped for presentations, prayer and meditation. Carol opens her home to small groups of 22 for overnight accommodations and partners with her neighbor, The Beachwood Resort across the street to accommodate large groups.

Sursum Corda is owned and managed by
Carol  Guenther, M. Div – a lay minister, spiritual director and mediator from Puyallup, Washington. Carol brings 28 years experience serving Catholic and Lutheran Churches in Washington State. She is a seasoned retreat leader, with a strong background in the arts. Carol is also a writer and served as an adjunct faculty member for the Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry.
